I will upload photos of this when we get a chance to hang them.

Please remember it is our library day tomorrow so all library books will need to be back :)

We will be discussing the New Zealand flags this week. A great homelink idea would be to research this with your child :) The children will be getting a chance to vote for the flag that they would like New Zealand to have.

Thursday 25th February

Today we had our first Mandarin lesson with a Chinese teacher. We had lots of fun. We learnt how to say hi and we learnt our teachers Chinese name. We also learnt that the China looks like the shape of a rooster and that the flag has 5 stars. We are going to have Mandarin lessons every Thursday morning this term :)

On Thursdays we also learn about our environment. Today we made bird feeders to hang on the trees around school next week. We had lots of fun making these. We used bird seeds, gelatine and water, then we put the mixture into cookie cutters.

Tomorrow we have our Long Bay trip. Our homelink tonight is to get all of our things ready for Long Bay.

We need:

  • School bags
  • Lunch
  • Drink bottle
  • Togs
  • Towel
  • Change of clothes
  • Sunblock
  • Hat
  • The children are allowed to wear mufti :)
Please make sure that EVERYTHING is named.
If you want to take your child from Long Bay tomorrow instead of them coming back to school on the bus then you must let Mrs Farrow know so she doesn't worry :)

Have a fantastic day :) Please do a sunshine dance tonight :)

Wednesday 24th February 2016

Habitat 5 have been working very hard today :)

We had Kiwi Sport this morning and we learnt how to play rob the nest. We had to get into different teams and then we needed to run one at a time to get a ball for our nest. There were soccer balls, rugby balls, tennis balls and a magic hockey ball. We all wanted to get the magic ball because that would mean we won the game. We needed to work together with our team and think about the balls that we needed. We all joined in and had great fun!

When we got back, we shared our homelink and had our brainfood.

We then played a new maths game then split into our different math groups to work on our basic facts.

During middle block we got to walk around the school and put up new signs around our compost bins to teach people what goes in them.

then we took photos at the fale in the car park and wrote thank you letters to the Lion Foundation for sponsoring us the money to build the fale.

We have read our readers and have one in our book bags to read to you after school :)

Here are the homelink ideas that we discussed:

  • Readers
  • Working on our blends, word families, important words and essential spelling lists
  • Basic facts
  • Sumdog, Sunshine Online and Sunshine Classics
