Monday 21st March

Habitat 5 have been busy creating art work with Mrs Webster for the hall today :)

I have been completing reading assessments. I am so happy with the improvement that has been made :) the children are very excited about their progress and about moving up levels :)

They will be bringing books home that may be a little longer and a little more challenging. I have said to them that they are able to read these books over a few nights or get you to help them by them reading a page and then you reading a page.

It would be a great help if you could ask them comprehension questions about the book once they have read so we can make sure they are understanding what they have read :)

Please remember that it is our class Museum trip on Wednesday this week.  A notice will be coming home to remind the children. They will still need to be in school uniform. It would be a great help if they could pack a smaller bag for the day that only has their lunch and a drink bottle. They wont need their book bag on this day. There is not much storage space at the Museum for all of their bags and they are unable to carry them around the museum with them so the smaller the bag the better :)

During week 10 and 11 of this term we will be having feedback to parent interviews. This is a 10 minute interview to discuss where your child is at, their next learning steps and how you can help them at home. Within the next couple of weeks I will contact you to discuss a time that suits you for this interview :)

Here is Finn with his learning certificate for learning how to write all the important words.

We have a poem in our literacy books about seeds to read over the weekend.

This afternoon we voted for new student council members for our learning group - Pikorua. The school then split into house groups to vote for our new house captains for the year.

Thursday 17th March

This morning in Mandarin we learnt about Chinese characters and pictures.
We learnt that the ancient Chinese people communicated by pictures.
We got to draw some pictures.

For my homelink I wrote a recount.

On Wednesday I went to school I practiced my words
and my blends and my word families. I did so well at them I got to put it in my learning journal. My teacher was proud of me. Then I went to the pools. I jumped into the pool, SPLASH! I went through my mums legs and I touched the bottom of the pool. Then I had an ice-cream and then I went home.

Joshua Arada

Azariah, Hemi, Jason and Kannitha were learning a new game to teach them basic facts. Ask them to teach you for homelink :)

After lunch we got to watch the ceremony for the Olympic day. It was only for years 3-6 but we got to go and have a look and see who won the medals.
Here are some photos of the children who won gold, silver and bronze. Hamish Carter was there too. We watched some video's about Hamish Carter winning gold in the triathlon. We think he is pretty cool. We can't wait till we are old enough to join in!
